Obtaining a compact license allows you to practice nursing in any of the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) states. To obtain a compact license, you must also have an active license in the state for which you are applying. Once you’ve obtained a license for one of the NLC states, you do not need licensure in any of the other NLC states to work in them. NLC states include:

CNA Licensure
How to get started as a Travel CNA
Looking for Travel Jobs now? Follow these simple steps.
- Check out Converdia Health Staffing Job Board to get started on your next travel job!
- Apply online – A Converdia Health Recruiter will be in touch shortly!
- Click on the state link below and follow the guidelines for completing your endorsement
Each state has their own policies and procedures in order to get licensed as a CNA. Some are free, some have fees attached, and some can be easily done online! When pursuing your license in a new state, the process is called “reciprocity” or “endorsement”
Alabama
Facility will need to handle getting your name placed on the Alabama Nurse Aide Registry.
Does Alabama have a Reciprocity form?
No. The reciprocity process for the state of Alabama requires your employer contact the State agency to have your name placed on the Alabama Nurse Aide Registry.
Alaska
Cost: $330 – Mail
Can work for 120 Days if the application is in process. For applicants currently certified in another state – must meet Alaska’s minimum training standards and possess unencumbered certification.
Arizona
Cost: $50 – Online Portal
Create an account, apply for a license, and choose the CNA by Endorsement route.
Explanation about the difference between a CNA vs LNA endorsement
The “NEW” CNA: The current CNA, also known as “Registry CNA”, is a new type of credential. Registry CNAs have fewer requirements for certification and less oversight by the Board. Registry CNA applicants need only meet the minimum federal requirements for CNA certification. A certificate will be issued after completing an approved CNA program and passing the CNA tests. Registry CNAs are required to practice 8 hours every two years to renew their license/certificate. A criminal background check is NOT required, and certification is free.
The LNA: The LNA must complete a criminal background check, has a higher level of oversight by the Board prior to and after issuance of the LNA license. LNAs are required to practice a minimum of 160 hours within the past two years to renew their license.
